Most people occasionally suffer the pain of mouth ulcers.

However, one in five Australian adults experience recurring bouts of mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers) – with no known cause.

Regular sufferers know all too well how painful and debilitating mouth ulcers can be and how challenging they can make simple tasks like eating and drinking.

Now oral health care company CareDent has launched Rapids Mouth Ulcer Strips – a fast and effective solution which provides instant relief from mouth ulcer pain and discomfort once placed on the effected area.

“Mouth ulcers are painful sores caused by the loss or erosion of the delicate tissue that lines the inside of the mouth, explains Dr David Young, Dental Surgeon, DJY Dental. “People tend to be more prone to developing mouth ulcers when tired, stressed or run down but they can occur at any time from a range of conditions.

“Ulcers can be incredibly uncomfortable for the sufferer and many of the existing over the counter solutions prove ineffective,” added Dr Young.

“Rapids Mouth Ulcer Strips offer instant relief by forming a protective cushion over the affected area, alleviating pain and making eating and drinking possible again. Strips can be repeated as needed up to four times in a 24 hour period.” Care Dent

Mouth ulcers can occur in any age group or population and can be the result of a wide variety of conditions.

Common causes include:

  • Ill-fitting dentures or braces
  • Biting your cheek
  • Excessive over-brushing
  • Burns from hot food or drinks
  • Being run down
  • Medication side effects
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • A range of infections

Treatment of mouth ulcers begins with prevention including regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene.

If an ulcer persists for more than five days, it is advisable to consult a dentist, doctor or pharmacist.

Rapids Mouth Ulcer Strips are available from dentists, pharmacies and supermarkets.
