Researchers at the University of Sydney are looking for people with longstanding back pain to be part of a new trial.

The trial called Mind Your Back requires participants to attend free treatment sessions in Leichhardt or other Sydney locations.

Half of the participants in the study will also complete an online emotional resilience training program from their home or office.

All chiropractic or physiotherapy treatments are free.

Researcher John Petrozzi says back pain is not only a physical problem, but an emotional one that can lead to disability and reduced quality of life.

Mr Petrozzi is a chiropractor and research student, sees people suffering with chronic back pain every day.

He and his colleagues at The University of Sydney are looking for people to take part in a study that looks into the effects of combining multimodal manual therapy (chiropractic or physiotherapy) with an online emotional resilience training program.

“About 80 per cent of people will have back pain at some point in their life. This is a large issue,” Mr Petrozzi said.

And work lost to back pain costs the Australian economy more than $9 billion each year.

If you are aged over 18 and want to take part in the study contact John Petrozzi on 9518 0096 or mpet9893@ uni.sydney.edu.au.
